Death is the greatest fear that ordinary human beings have. It is the epitomy of all our fears especially the fear of the unknown. This fear also captures our fierce attachment to our own lives. The survival instinct that evolved in all biological beings for millennia also adds on to the fear of death and our passion for life. Yet as the saying goes, “Life is just a blink between two eternities”. What then is death? It is just the transition phase to eternal life. If we live in constant remembrance that we are really souls on a pilgrimage, then the mystery and fear of death is unveiled for what it really is. It is just a break on the journey, a bend on the road for another adventure, another phase of our soul’s evolution. Yet again, death takes on another significance…it reminds us to live our lives now to the fullest and celebrate each part of the journey. It gives us courage to stand for what is right even at the point of death… It gives us the energy and inspiration to always make of our acts as if it’s the last act we have on earth. And our actions takes on an aura of power, of deliberateness, of abandon, of bravery, and of celebration. For life is such a beauty and yet it is not ours to possess. It is just ours to live with gusto, choice, and enjoyment. Then we will make every moment count and every encounter meaningful. Our bodies, heart, mind, and will become integrated with continuous practice and we become great souls in the process. The great truth is this: We are not our bodies….we are our souls.
